Watershed will host a day of pervasive media projects on 15 September as part of the Offload Festival which take place across the city on 13 - 16 September 2007.
OFFLOAD SYSTEMS FOR SURVIVAL - is the UK’s first interdisciplinary network media and systems arts event on nature, sustainability and ecology. OFFLOAD brings together international, national and local artists and practitioners interested in creating socially engaged work that use new and existing media to address the core themes of ‘Trade, Network and Nomads’ and ‘Health, Wealth and Play’.
Plans for the 15th at Watershed include:
'Ere Be Dragons - Active Ingredient
'Ere Be Dragons a game built upon HP Labs Mediascapes, takes you into a virtual world created by your own heartbeat. As players travel through the landscape the physical and physiological changes in their body help to create a different world. The game responds to the location and physical activity of the players, measured by pedometers and heart-rate monitors.
always something somewhere else: Duncan Speakman
A generative mediascape that creates a temporary map in a location as the user is asked to seek out certain base materials such as glass, stone, and water. As the map is created the user can return to the points they marked to hear the stories fold in on themselves and conclude. The piece is reflective and sometimes melancholy, it touches on issues of climate change and global awareness, but ultimately encourages the listener to treasure the moments around them…
Avant garde architects Minimaforms present their SMS text message public sculpture ‘Smoke Signals’. Based on the ancient system of trading messages, their digital version allows participants to text in real-time their messages onto plumes of smoke, which will float across Bristol Harbour.
Hp Labs will also be hosting mscape workshops throughout the day.
