UK Creatives at SXSWi

“To say that it was useful would be an understatement - attending the festival really helped us get to grips with what we want the company to be, and more importantly the confidence to try and make it a reality.” Richard Wilson, Mobile Pie

For the past two years, iShed has taken delegations of the country’s leading digital creatives to attend the SXSW Interactive festival. The Festival celebrates the creativity and passion behind the coolest new media technologies. In addition to panel sessions that cover everything from web design to bootstrapping to social networks, attendees can make new business connections at the three-day Trade Show & Exhibition.

Working with Arts Council England, South West Screen, South West Regional Development Agency and UKTI, the delegation supports participants to research new business opportunities, view work, spot emerging digital trends and experience first hand one of the biggest international conferences and festivals of the year.

Excuse me sir, that’s my hat…
As part of the delegation to SXSWi 2009, iShed and Arts Council England co-commissioned The Hat Game to run on the streets of Austin during the Festival. The game, which used Google Maps to track a GPS-enhanced bowler hat that players had to find and claim, was developed by Simon Games and Hide&Seek. It was covered by The Guardian, Tech crunch and many others and became one of the most watched films on BBC that month.
